The Directorate has two (2) sections namely Academic Planning and Academic Quality Assurance. These sections are charged with the responsibility to ensure the maintenance as well as continuous improvement of academic standards at the University of Cape Coast. Specifically, the Academic Planning Section is responsible for coordinating the planning and monitoring of academic programmes while the Quality Assurance Section is responsible for monitoring both academic and administrative activities meant to ensure the continuous improvement of academic standards in the University.
The main duties of the two Sections of the Directorate are listed below:
The Academic Planning Section is assigned to:
- Provide a periodic report on the state of UCC
- Review the performance and monitor programmes and operations of the University’s academic, administrative and support units
- Conduct evaluative studies concerning objectives and cost-effectiveness of programmes and units
- Appraise projects/ proposals emanating from faculties/schools and departments to ensure consistency with the goals and objectives of the University’s strategic plan
- Analyses and assist in the formulation of recommendations on warranted changes in the University's student intake, and programmes (at both micro and macro levels)
- Liaise with relevant bodies both within and outside the University on academic planning matters.
The Academic Quality Assurance Section seeks to:
- Assist Schools/faculties and units to conduct tracer studies
- Support Schools/faculties to conduct needs assessments as inputs into the review of curriculum and programmes
- Prompt Schools/Faculties to initiate curriculum review process
- Monitor and evaluate the quality of instructions as well as the performance of students; and
- Organize seminars, workshops and training programmes to improve and assure academic quality in the University.
